DES was buzzing 🐝 with Kindness on World Kindness Day!

DHS Librarian Mr. Mitchell was a speaker yesterday at the ESC Region 20 annual librarian conference in San Antonio. The presentation entitled “Every Library Day is a Red Carpet Day” was the underlining thread rooted in Mr. Mitchell’s film work. A far-reaching talk, he spoke about his life story. How his experiences have informed him on how he approaches and runs the library space. He also highlighted student voices on how they feel about their library. The presentation was well attended and well received.

Stronger Connections coordinated a wildlife trip for Art II students to Lost Maples State Park. Students had the opportunity to paint scenic landscapes and practice photography, capturing the beauty of nature firsthand. A special thank you to Mr. Zertuche, Dr. Ziegler, and Ms. McLaughlin for chaperoning and supporting the students throughout the trip.

****TATE SET TO CHEER FOR MIDLAND **** Congratulations to our very own Jewlea Tate as she has committed to Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. Tate has also received scholarship and to be part of the Midland Cheer program as she will cheer for the blue and orange, as well as for her brother Bubba Reyes. Dilley is overjoyed with the news and extremely proud of you. Can't wait to hear the successes coming from Nebraska. We Back the Pack!!!

Stronger Connections hosted its first-ever Cancer & Diabetes Awareness Walk to honor the many individuals within our district, community, and families. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners and participants: H-E-B, Frio Regional Hospital, the Jealeana Cantu Family, South Texas Rural Health Services, La Salle County Sheriff Hector Ramirez, Frio County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, the DHS Mighty Wolf Band, DHS Cheerleaders, and the DISD Technology & Media Department.

A special thank-you to our student speakers — Jewlea Tate, Raegan Furnace, Lynnlee Surles, and Johnathan Osio and to student volunteer Ezekiel DeLeon for their outstanding participation and leadership.

Good luck to our MHMS Pups and JV Wolves as they set out to close their season against the Poth Pirates. MHMS will be playing at Gosch Field @ 5 PM with 7th Grade, followed by 8th Grade @ 6:15 PM. Tickets will be sold online through the link below:

If you participated in Mini Cheer Camp this summer with the DHS Cheerleaders you will perform and cheer with them on Friday night. There will be a quick practice for those who can make it tomorrow at 5:00 at the DHS gym. For the game on Friday, be at the stadium by 6:15pm!
