The Fourth Annual Dilley Big Bash Invitational took off this past Thursday from the 18th to the 20th. Dilley opened up their own tournament with three straight 15-run rule games that came off the expense of Laredo Martin, St. Gerard, and La Pryor. Clinching a championship birth by rule of run differential, the Lady Wolves awaited the winner between Crystal City and Somerset to see how the championship stage would be set. Crystal City merged victorious over Somerset 2 to 0 in a pitcher's duel till the end. Somerset ended up taking third place honors while Crystal City went on to face Dilley in the championship game. Exciting does not describe the Crystal City, Dilley match-up; both starting pitchers proved that they were the aces of their teams. Unike Rodriguez was the arm that was on the rubber for Dilley and Nikita Hernandez for Crystal City, both pitchers only allowed less than three hits. Crystal City jumped out to a two to zero lead in the fourth, after two errors committed by Dilley. During the sixth inning with superb small ball playing by Dilley the Lady Wolves tied it up two to two. Unike Rodriguez retired the Lady Javelinas in order to start off the seventh giving Dilley the last bat opportunity. With one out Marcy Salazar picked up the game winning RBI bringing in Mikayla Martinez to finish the game three to two. This marks the first championship win in history for Dilley in their own tournament. All tourney honors went to Bria Ramirez, Mikayla Martinez, Marcy Salazar, Ronica Rodriguez, Crystal Zepeda, and the tournament MVP went to Unike Rodriguez. Crystal City gave the whole team all tourney honors, Charlotte took home consolation, as well. The Lady Wolves are coached by Head Coach Jorge Antonio Cabasos, assisted by Coach Larry Lumbreras and stats taken by Rey Chapa and Kassandra Ayala.
