I was born in San Diego, California and was one of six children from a military family. I spent most of my growing up years in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina but graduated from high school in Albany, Georgia. I graduated with honors from Southwest Texas State University (now named Texas State University) in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education specializing in reading. I have taught in New Caney ISD (87-89), Hallettsville ISD (89-90) and Dilley ISD (90-present). I hold an Early Childhood and ESL certificate. I am a district trainer for the First, Second, and Third Grade Reading Academies. I am currently the Campus Coach for the Elementary Reading Program.

I am married to Jay Autrey (Dilley Elementary P.E. teacher) and have four wonderful sons.
