The Dilley Elementary School Kinder - 3rd grade's core reading program is the Voyager Universal Literacy System. Our reading program is based on scientific research based practices and addresses five essential components of effective reading instruction:
Students are provided 90 minutes of uninterupted reading instruction in a variety of instructional settings (whole class, small group, partner and/or one-to-one) daily. Kindergarten Theme - Tree Houses Students qualify for additional 30 minute reading intervention instruction based on Benchmark Assessment and T.P.R.I. (Texas Primary Reading Inventory) scores. The intervention program we use is the Voyager Passport System. Our Reading Teacher is Mrs. Amanda Pullin Voyager ULS Dilley Elementary School was awarded a reading First Grant from the Texas Education Agency in August 2003. Dilley Elementary K-3rd grade began a new core reading program named the Voyager Universal Literacy System. We are currently in our fifth year of implementation and we are extremely pleased with the progress our students have made using this program. There are 4 benchmark assessments on the Vital Indicators of Progress (similar to DIBELS) given throughout the school year. Parents receive copies of all benchmark results. More frequent (weekly and monthly) progress monitoring assessments are completed for students identified as struggling and emerging on these benchmark tests. Additional reading assistance is provided for any student who is not "on track." If you ever have any questions, concerns or reading needs, please contact your child's reading teacher and/or Mrs. Chris Autrey, Dilley Elementary Reading First Coach.
